There are only about 16 - 20 species of shark that can be considered dangerous to man with about the same number that should be treated as potentially dangerous. It is often difficult for sharks to be identified from an attack, as up to 50% of shark attack victims do not see the shark before the attack. Eyewitnesses, the size and marks left by bites, or teeth left behind help to identify the type of shark, but the actual type of shark identified is often only limited to the family of sharks. The Great White is held responsible for approximately a third of all attacks. The Bull and Tiger shark take up the majority of the remainder of attacks.
